The finely machined surfaces often exhibit numerous gray‑black, circular, shallow pits. If these pits are not cleaned prior to machining, they become filled with slag, which can significantly compromise the quality of the castings.

The surfaces of precision-machined parts often exhibit numerous gray‑black, circular, shallow pits. If these pits are not cleaned prior to machining, they become filled with slag, which can significantly compromise the quality of the castings.

Precision machining is convenient, helps conserve materials, and enables resource savings during operation. Many casting processes are limited to producing relatively simple castings, whereas another advantage of precision machining is its ability to produce complex components.

There are numerous considerations to keep in mind during precision machining, primarily because the molten steel exhibits relatively poor fluidity. To effectively prevent defects such as insufficient filling or cold shuts during the process, the wall thickness of the precision‑machined component must not be less than 8 mm.

The detailed mechanical machining solidification method is as follows:

1. Intermediate Solidification: The solidification of most alloys lies between layer-by-layer solidification and mushy-zone solidification.

2. Paste-like solidification: The alloy exhibits a very broad crystallization temperature range. During a certain stage of solidification, no solid layer forms on the finely machined surface; the solidification zone extends through the entire cross-section, initially taking on a paste-like consistency and subsequently undergoing complete solidification.

3. Layer-by-layer solidification: For metals and eutectic alloys, there is no solidification zone during the solidification process; the liquid and solid phases are clearly demarcated by a distinct interface. As the temperature decreases, the solid-phase layer continuously grows while the liquid-phase layer steadily diminishes, with the transition occurring in the central region.
